The maximum influx of people in any municipality is the time when the city or town celebrates its patron saint. And as with warm weather comes more and better organized from June 23 to Sant Joan ending September 9 with Verge de Gracia. The holidays with their environment of revelry and joy can lead to some in an excellent opportunity to accelerate the usually more reserved and discrete insular spirit and let go at the moment, while for others all the excitement that goes with it can be shocking.
The festivities of Menorca have, as in other parts of the national territory, a distinctly local, the main role played by horses, pure breed recognized Menorca, animals that are prized by the islanders.
During the holiday traditions are blended varied: rural elements, chivalrous and citizens with a religious spirit, coming from pagan origins, Jews and especially Christians. The June 23 brings a cavalcade of over 100 riders, Sa cavalcade, come together to, for almost two days with few breaks, be the center, the peak of events. The riders made the Caragois (turns), and again riding through the streets of old city, conveniently covered with sand. It also conducts the day after the feast of St. Joan in the early morning the following ending cavalcade afternoon at Pla de Sant Joan is with equestrian games in which denotes the quality of the riders, the surprise and admiration of the large number of people attending this show.
The parties both as Sant Joan as those of other municipalities are finished with a large fireworks display.
During the rest of the summer festivals are happening in other towns on the island, each with its peculiarities, although the origin could be found in these cases in ancient pilgrimages on horseback, to honor the local patron, normally located on neighboring chapels.
